COCIDIRAIL
The "Collectif Citoyen pour la restitution et le development intégre du rail" (Civic Association for the return and sustainable development of the rail) is a Malian organization that describes itself as a people's union. Its head Dr. Tiecoura Traoré, former technical leader and rail unionist, fought for the reversal of the privatization which concerns the rail line Dakar - Bamako. During that process, Traoré, along with other employees, was fired by the new company Transrail – lead by a French-Canadian consortium. Cocidirail as an organization involves railway employees, their families as well as social movements and international supporters and – not least – the sectors of the population suffering from the consequences of the privatization.
